This Editorial Arizona Maternity Session at the beautiful Gilbert Silos was the perfect blend of timeless style and heartfelt nostalgia. When Lauren reached out to plan her maternity photos, she wanted more than just a traditional photoshoot. She envisioned a session that felt like a piece of art, capturing this season of her life with sophistication and warmth. As soon as she described her vision, I knew the silos in Gilbert would be the ideal backdrop, offering a soft, natural beauty that perfectly reflected her style.
As a photographer here in Arizona, I love scouting locations that feel unique, cinematic, and full of character. This hidden gem in the heart of Gilbert checks all the boxes. Whether you’re local or traveling in for your session, this spot offers a beautiful mix of textures and scenery, perfect for couples or growing families who want something special.
Lauren and I go way back—we’ve been friends for a few years now, and I’ve had the privilege of documenting her and her husband Tyler’s journey long before parenthood. Their first shoot with me was when it was just the two of them, full of that “just us” energy that makes engagement and couple sessions so fun. Fast forward a few years, I know have the privilege of documenting Lauren before the birth of their second little boy.
That’s one of my favorite parts of being a photographer: getting to witness and document these milestones over time. There’s something deeply nostalgic about flipping through albums where you see a couple evolve into a family. Sessions like these aren’t just about pretty photos; they’re about telling a family’s story in an authentic, timeless way.
One of the questions I get asked all the time is, “Where should we take our maternity photos?” Many people assume Arizona has to be in the desert with cacti and red rocks. While I adore the desert aesthetic, some families want something a little different, and that’s where the Gilbert Silos come in.
This spot feels like a secret little oasis. Tucked in the middle of a quiet Gilbert neighborhood, it’s not your typical Arizona backdrop. Instead, you get:
The variety in scenery makes it easy to get a wide range of shots without having to travel to multiple locations. It’s a dream for families who want their photos to feel both elevated and approachable.
For Lauren’s session, we wanted to strike a balance between editorial, timeless and nostalgic. Here’s how we did it:
This combination of styling, location, and natural direction is key to creating maternity photos that feel like you while still having that elevated, editorial edge
Maternity sessions are so much more than a pregnancy milestone. They’re a way to capture the emotions and anticipation of this life-changing moment. For many parents, these photos become heirlooms, something their children will treasure years down the line.
When I think back on Lauren and Tyler’s journey, I’m reminded why I love what I do. I’ve seen them grow from a couple into a family of four, and every session has been a piece of their story. If you’re considering a maternity shoot, I highly recommend scheduling it around 28–34 weeks of pregnancy. At this stage, your bump is beautifully round, but you’ll still feel comfortable moving around during your session.
Arizona offers such a wide variety of photography backdrops, from iconic desert landscapes to lush hidden spots like this one. I love helping couples and families discover locations that feel like a true reflection of their personality.
The silos are especially special because they feel unexpected—people often say their photos don’t “look like Arizona,” which is perfect for anyone who wants something fresh and unique.
I love capturing all things maternity and lifestyle.
