I got to capture a vintage inspired wedding at Tlaquepaque in Sedona, Arizona this last October and it was so good on so many levels. Jordan reached out to me earlier this year and her and I clicked instantly. When I asked her to describe the vibe of the day she said “We’re drawing inspiration from the “Heavenly Bodies” Met Gala — think elegant, dramatic, and a little vintage Roman Catholic flair.” I almost passed away because hello, that is right up my alley.
With all my couples I am there for a lot of the planning because I want to know exactly what your vision is going into the day. We go over your Pinterest board and really dive into why you pinned the photos you pinned. We go over your timeline that I have created for the day. I really want to make sure that I understand your vision. Jordan and I had several phone calls, texts, and voice messages back and forth really nailing down every detail of the day.
Jordan and Austin had a more intimate wedding with no more than 50 guests and it really allowed them to soak in every moment with all their friends and family. The festivities started the day before with their welcome dinner but in the best most untraditional manner we did their portraits while everyone waited for them to arrive to their dinner. I met them at Jordan’s house she grew up which had a hiking trail right up the road that she would hike often. It was about a mile hike up to the most beautiful plateau. The best part was, this was on her neighbor’s private property so their portrait location won’t be shared with anyone else.
In good ol’ Sedona fashion we got to hear someone playing the bongo drums and got to end their portraits with the most beautiful sunset. After that we hiked back down and headed off to their welcome dinner.
Next day, was their ceremony at Tlaquepaque and it was just exactly as Jordan and Austin have described. Moody, vintage, eclectic. The dark tones, the candlelit chapel. It was a short and sweet ceremony followed by their reception at Jordan’s family home. Jordan did all of her own florals and wow wow wow they turned out phenomenal!
Since these two had more of an intimate day they really wanted to be in the moment with their people and that is why we did majority of their portraits the day prior. They also just truly wanted me there for the moments that mattered most to them – ceremony & reception.
It was very important to the both of them that the day was very film focused- more so than normal. I loved the idea of that. I shot rolls of film and Super 8 that will be integrated seamlessly into their gallery.
